= Summer Research Opportunities for Harvard Undergraduates =
Summer 2008

The CitySense project is looking for talented undergraduates to undertake independent research projects over the summer. This is a great way to kickstart a research career, especially if you are interested in applying to graduate school or doing a senior thesis.

CitySense is an NSF-funded project to develop and deploy a 100-node wireless sensor network across a city. There are many exciting opportunities for research. Some of the summer project ideas we have include:
 * Kernel and 802.11 network hacking
 * Implementing security features
 * Automatic failure detection and recovery
 * Designing core system software for testbed monitoring and management
 * Running experiments of network performance
 * Building interfaces to new sensors

Students should have C programming experience (CS50, CS61, or CS161 preferred) and be comfortable working in a UNIX environment. You need not be a CS concentrator to apply.

Summer research projects generally run from June 1-August 15, but the specific dates are flexible. This is a full-time position. You will work closely with a team of graduate and undergraduate students in our lab in Maxwell Dworkin. These positions are only open to Harvard undergraduates.

 * A recent resume
 * List of CS courses taken and grades
 * Contact information for one reference (ideally a Harvard faculty member).

We expect to select 4-5 students from the applicant pool and will inform applicants whether they have been accepted no later than February 14 (just in time for Valentine's Day).
